CHAPTER 6
-
Introduction
-
If a
Hadith is quoted without pointing out its degree of Authenticity
should we take it as authentic, or should we try to find out
first whether or not it is authentic before implement it? an
example of such an Hadith: the Prophet (PBUH) is reported to have
said "whoever hears the call to prayer and does not answer
it by coming to the mosque, his prayer shall be void, unless he
has an excuse for absence.
-
Sometimes
one comes across two traditions of the Prophet (PBUH) which seems
to diametrically contradict or oppose each other eg. the Prophet
is quoted to have given two different answers to the same
question on "whether the eating of the meat of camels
invalidates ablution". We know that the Prophet (PBUH) is
infallible in matters which relate to his conveyance of the
message. How can we account for such contradiction?
-
What is
difference between Qur'an, a Hadith Qudsi, and an Hadith?
-
I
understand that there are 4 schools of thought in Islam, who were
the founders. which of the four schools of thought is considered
"strict" in the acceptance of Hadith ? How did they
achieve their unique status and become fancies?
-
How did
the four Imams who established the four major schools of thought
become famous? "Why is there a need for different schools of
thought". Is it necessary to follow any particular one of
the four major schools? or can we follow the Qur'an and the
Sunnah? Why do they differ in the first place?
-
Is there
a Wahibi school of thought? I understand that the ideology of
Mohammad ibn Abdul Wahab is widely followed in Saudi Arabia; is
that true?

CHAPTER 7
- Introduction
-
- To whom is a
Muslim allowed to marry or not to marry?
-
- "Women
to whom one is forbidden to marry" who are the women
one is bidden to marry and are these any others than
those mentioned in the Qur'an?
-
- Can a Muslim
also marry a woman of any other faith? It is understood
also that a Muslim is allowed to marry a Christian or
Jewish woman. You are undoubtedly aware of the Quranic
verse which states that no Muslim, man or woman, may
marry a polytheist. Now that Christians claim that Jesus
was the son of God and the Jews, some of them at least,
make similar claims about EZRA, do they not become
polytheists whom we are not allowed to marry?
-
- What is the
significance of MEHR or Dowry, is it compulsory in Islam?
-
- What is right
age from the Islamic point of view, for a man to be
married ? Is there an age limit for a marriage between a
man and a woman?
-
- "Marriage
by compulsion": Can parents marry their daughter to
anyone they choose, against their daughters will? Is it
necessary to obtain the consent (permission) of parents
for marriage?
-
- Is woman
allowed to make her own marriage contract without the
consent of her parents?
-
- What is the
proper procedure, from the Islamic point of view, for
selecting one's life partner?
-
- Is a son
allowed to make a marriage of his own choice, without his
parents consent?
-
- How does
Islam view love marriage? Does Islam put any restriction
on meeting before the actual marriage, or on letters or
telephone conversation?
-
- "The
significance of waiting period:" What is the minimum
waiting period for a woman who wishes to remarry? In the
case of death of her husband or a divorce from her
husband ?
-
- In Islam one
is allowed to marry more than one wife. Is it true and if
so why ?
-
- Is it
necessary for a man who wants to marry a second wife to
obtain the consent of his first wife? If the answer is
yes, does this mean that he cannot marry his second wife
unless the first one consents?
|
CHAPTER 8
- Introduction
-
- How and when
a divorce take place?
-
- If a divorce
takes place before the consumation of the marriage, is it
necessary for the wife to observe the waiting period?
-
- If a man is
in a state of blind anger pronounces the words of divorce
to his wife is it considered a valid divorce?
-
- Could you
explain whether the pronouncement of divorce three times
at the same time and place constitutes divorce once or
three times?
-
- Please
explain the process of divorce and the workings leading
to a third time divorce?
-
- Can a woman
divorce her husband even if he does not approve of such a
decision?
-
- COULD YOU
PLEASE DETAIL THE ISLAMIC CONDITIONS LAID DOWN FOR THE
MAINTENANCE OF A DIVORCEE?
|
CHAPTER 9
-
Introduction
-
Who are eligible
as heirs and what share is due to each?
-
If a person who
has a father passes away leaving children. Does the death of the
children father deprive those young children of the inheritance
which their father would have received, had his father died
before him?
-
Can one dispute
inheritance on the basis of local laws and traditions, which
differ from Allah's law?
-
If a man gifts to
any of his children or to his wife, does it effect their share of
inheritance when he dies?
-
Who are unlawful
co-sharers of inheritance?
-
Is it allowed for
one to disinherit one's legal heirs?
|
CHAPTER 10
-
INTEREST
AND USURY
-
-
- Is the word
usury different from interest ? According to the Oxford
dictionary "usury means lending money at exorbitant
or illegal rates of interest". Therefore what
exactly constitutes usury?
-
- Does the
interest given by Banks nowadays fall under usury? In our
modern world, all business transactions inevitably
involves banks which invite some measure of giving or
taking interest. How does a Muslim deal with this
situation?
-
- How does one
deal with a banking institution that declares that it is
abiding by Islamic principles and offers a "PROFIT
and LOSS" account?
-
- Interest is
forbidden in Islam. What does one do when we see that
funds deposited in current accounts would only dwindle by
the yearly deduction of Zakat?
-
-
FOOD AND
DRINK
-
-
- What is the
difference between Makrooh and Haram?
-
- Can a
businessman hoard food such as wheat, rice and sugar etc.
in order to make a larger profit in future? Is it
forbidden to hoard food for more than 40 days?
-
- What are the
requirement for a proper slaughtering of an animal, can
we use a sword or stab the animal?
-
- Are Muslims
living in western societies allowed to partake the
animals slaughtered there, and the Fast Food available in
Restaurants?
-
- Is it
permissible to hunt birds to eat? Which birds are
forbidden to eat? What if the bird dies as a result of
the shot and before the hunter is able to slaughter it?
-
- Why do
scholars give different opinions on smoking; Some of them
say that it is forbidden, while others say that it is
preferable that people refrain from smoking? I should be
grateful if you would kindly explain in detail the
reasons for this difference in opinion on a question
which seems to be straightforward.
-
-
DRESS AND
PURDAH
-
-
- Could you
specify what parts of the body may be revealed during
prayer?
-
- Is it
compulsory for a Muslim woman to cover her face when she
goes out? You are of the opinion that they need not cover
their faces or their hands. I am told that some
`liberated' Muslim women maintain that the veil was
obligatory for the pious wives of the Prophet (PBUH), and
that they "the common women" need not observe
it?
-
- What is the
Quranic support that women do not have to cover their
face, but must cover their heads?
-
- Is it
permissible for a Muslim to wear western style clothes?
-
-
ADULTERY
AND FORTIFICATION
-
-
- On
punishment for Adultery.
-
- In case a
wife confesses to Adultery during husbands long absence,
is the marriage still valid?
-
- If a person
is accused by another group of committing adultery and
the court of justice finds the accused to be innocent and
releases him, what is the punishment prescribed by Islam
for those who had leveled the charges? Thus actually
having committing perjury?

CHAPTER 11
|
CHAPTER 12
- Innovation in
Islam & Teachings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
-
- Innovation;
Celebrating the Prophets Birthday? Why is it an
innovation, although it is only an expression of our
happiness?
-
- Innovation?
Seerat-An-Nabi.
-
- Innovation?
Celebration of the Prophet's night Journey i.e.
SHAB-E-MAIRAJ and SHAB-E-RAAT the night of 15th of
SHABAAN and SHAB-E-QADR or the night of prayer.
-
- Singing in
Praise of the Prophet. NA'AT and QAWWALIS; is this
practice acceptable?
-
- Was the
Prophet created of light? Some Muslims in the Indo-Pak
Sub-Content say that Allah created the Prophet even
before the creation of the angels in heaven?
-
- DAROOD. Is it
correct to say the following prayer for the Prophet
"My Lord bless Prophet Mohammad and his household as
many times as the number of all illnesses and for cures?
-
- Visiting
graveyards or tombs of Muslim saints; Reading of Surah Al-Fatiha; Miraculous powers of "AULIA" or
saints.
-
- On
"KUNDAAS" a recitation of the Al-Fatiha for
Ja'afar Sadiq a great many times in the month of Rajab.
-
- The writing
of the figure 786 on top of letters, deeds or invitation
cards etc.

circumcision.
|
CHAPTER 13
- Status of
woman in Islam. Is man superior?
-
- Equal rights
for women. Is it permissible in Islam for women to fight
for their rights? Such as freedom of speech, equal job
opportunities and equal wages as men, as is done by women
in the west?
-
- Every time
that a reward from Allah is mentioned for a particular
action. It is described as being given to man. What is
the reward for women then, and what is in Heaven for
woman?
-
- Women at work
and pressure of society. Requirements of Dress. In some
countries, women find themselves obliged to go to work.
It is often the case, however, that such Muslim women
find it difficult to observe Islamic requirements in
dress. How should a woman behave in the above
circumstances?
-
- Q5 - 1)
Women's appearance & dress
-
- Q5 - 2) On

hair?
-
- Q5 - 5)

-
- Q5 - 6)
Women in congregation: Husband and wife praying together?

- Is it
appropriate for a Muslim woman to adopt her husband's
family name, in the same way as Western women do?
-
- It is a
common practice that following the day of marriage, the
bridegroom hosts a dinner to which he invites all
relatives as well as relatives of his bride. This party
is called valima. The majority of the people are of the
opinion that giving such a dinner, or valima is
conditional on the consummation of the marriage. Some
people say it is forbidden to give such a valima before
the consummation of the marriage. Please comment.

CHAPTER 14
-
Was Prophet Jesus
(Peace be on him) raised to heaven alive or after he died a
natural death in this world? What will be his mission in his
Second Coming to this world?
-
Who is Imam Mahdi?
Is he a direct descendant of the Prophet (PBUH)? Was he living
once and has Allah taken him to heaven in order to reappear at a
future time? What are "signs" with which he is to be
recognized? Why is he called an Imam? And what is the concept of
Imamat in Islam?
-
Some hold the view
that spiritual guidance by a "Sheikh" is indispensable
for the attainment of human perfection. Is this true? It is
further said that certain knowledge regarding the Creator of the
universe is kept in secret and given only to pious Muslims. Those
who are dedicated in the realm of spiritualism and mysticism gain
such knowledge. How far is this relevant to the basic teachings
of Islam?
-
Back in my
country, I read a book which states that every Muslim must have a
Sheikh, or teacher, who is to be obeyed in all matters, even when
it is clear that his directive is wrong. If you do not have a
Sheikh, Satan will be your leader, so goes the argument. I had
many an argument about this with people who follow different Sufi
methods, but they are impossible to convince. I was given a book,
which quotes the Quranic verses: Believers fear Allah and be you
with the truly faithful. The author goes on to state that by
"truly faithful" are meant the mystics and the true
lovers of Allah, for "whoever keeps their company and
listens to their sermons, he (sic) attains very high standards of
spirituality". I should be grateful for your comments.
-
What is exactly
meant by the term "Freemason"? I read recently in a
newspaper that an invitation had been extended to Prince Charles
to become a Freemason. His mother, Queen Elizabeth, objected on
grounds that her son was a good Christian. This prompts me to
ask; can a Muslim become a Freemason?
-
I come from the
south Indian state of Kerala, which is stronghold of the
communist movement. There are many "practicing" Muslims
who are dedicated activists of this movement. Since communism is
totally materialistic and strongly opposed to all religions,
including Islam, how can the practice of these Muslims be viewed?
-
Due to Christian
missionary work in many Muslim countries, some poor people have
given up Islam and adopted Christianity. What are the duties of a
Muslim state supposed to do to missionary personnel and to people
who convert to Christianity?
